Varathron

Varathron are a legendary Greek black metal band formed in 1988 in Athens. They are considered one of the founders of the famed “Hellenic Black Metal” scene, alongside bands such as Rotting Christ and Necromantia. Their sound is defined by dark, ritualistic atmospheres and a fusion of traditional black metal with doom and heavy metal elements. Throughout more than three decades of activity, Varathron have remained faithful to their unique style — epic, mystical, and fully devoted to the underground spirit of metal. Their debut album His Majesty at the Swamp (1993) is now regarded as a genre classic, while their latest release The Crimson Temple (2023) proves that the band still possesses the power and inspiration to reign over the scene.
